SRK’s Alejo Sfriso Named South American VP Of ISSMGE

SRK Consulting is pleased to announce that SRK Argentina’s general manager, Dr. Alejo Sfriso, has been named the new vice president of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) for South America. Alejo’s tenure as vice president will commence in September 2017.

Alejo is a principal engineer in SRK’s Buenos Aires office. He has 25 years of experience in geotechnical engineering for infrastructure and mining works. He is an expert in the application of numerical methods for geotechnical design and analysis.

Alejo belongs to twelve professional associations, including the ISSMGE, IAEG, ISRM, IGS, ICOLD, IACMAG, ITA, and ASCE and their corresponding chapters in Argentina. He was a member of the executive committee of the Argentinean Society for Geotechnical Engineering from 1997 to 2015 and the society’s president from 2011 to 2015. Alejo has been as a professor in soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundations at the University of Buenos Aires since 1989 and at the University of La Plata from 1996 to 2015. At the University of Buenos Aires, he also serves as a jury member for engineering faculty appointments, a reviewer of journals and theses, and a member of advisory committees, conference organizing committees, and departmental councils.
